Description
After a production run of 25 years and more than 6,500 boats, the Catalina 30 is one of the most successful production sailing yachts in history. She is designed for comfort as well as performance.
The internal cabin, with a head room height of 6'3", is especially wide, permitting amazingly spacious and luxurious accommodation. The large and efficient self-bailing cockpit with spray dodger, awning and solar panels, allows for spacious, comfortable cruising, and the smart deck layout with positioning of mainsheet and traveler and all control lines coming back to the cockpit, allowing for efficient and safe short handed sailing.
She comfortably sleeps five: There is the double forepeak berth, two berths in the saloon, and the aft double berth comfortably sleeps one. There are provisions for an extra two berths: a second person in the aft double berth (perhaps a child), and the ability to drop the table down making another berth if needed (current table would need to be modified for this). Forward, the comfortable double cabin has shelves and a large overhead hatch. Just aft is a generously proportioned head area with electric toilet, sink, and shower, with moulded-in shower pan. Opposite the head is a generous hanging locker and chest of drawers.
The main saloon is large and spacious, with a table that stows away easily when not in use. Storage space aboard the Catalina 30 is abundant and well planned. All shelves have teak pin rails to keep thinks in place. Beneath all seats and berths are easily accessible compartments for larger gear and supplies. The water tanks, fuel tanks and engine are well hidden, yet with easy access.
The aft galley on the port side is easy to use with a top loading refrigerator (converted from the original ice box) and large double sinks. It is out of the traffic yet open and handy with plenty of space. The galley boasts a double burner gas stove, plenty of storage and drawers.
The navigation station on the starboard side is like those found on much larger yachts, providing storage for charts and navigation equipment. The electronics and switch panels are easily accessible. She features an overly large companionway, making indoor - outdoor communications and entertaining easy and enjoyable.
The Catalina 30 is a comfortable, able, blue water cruising yacht with a proven race winning capability with outstanding performance. A masthead sloop with a sail area of 446sq ft, she boasts a large overlapping furling genoa, an MPS, and a fully battened mainsail with a lazyjack boombag for easy stowage. She was built by those who know the sea. She has sailed double-handedly extensively up and down the Queensland coast by her current owners. She is a high quality yacht that represents a sound investment for many more years of cruising ahead of her.
